Amy & Norway

Posted on July 24, 2011

It would be disrespectful of me if I didn’t mention the passing of one of my all time favourite musicians, Amy Winehouse. To me , she was and is up there with Billie, Bessie, Sarah, Dinah, Ella, and I was so looking forward to her new stuff, but will always love the old stuff. A tremendous talent taken from us. Her voice will live on longer than all the crap written about her.

On yet another sad note, my thoughts go out to the people of Norway, after such a terrible tragedy there. So shocking in such a peaceful, beautiful country.

Comments

  1. I definitely saw Amy’s talent and potential in future recordings, and it’s just too bad that she let herself go. Another waste.

I don’t even want to get started on the Norway massacre, or my contempt for the man who walked around, stalking and shooting those children. I’ll just leave that justice to the imagination.

Thi weekend was very sad due to those 2 events. Best regards to the greatest bass player in hard rock ! My respect!

  3. Leonard Day says:

Well said Geezer! I find the bile written about Amy so incredibly distasteful. Perhaps in years to come these immature people will realise what a talent she was, and what she could have been, and that it was the dark forces that surrounded her that took full advantage of her vulnerabilities. RIP Amy.

To the people of that lovely country that is Norway; don’t let the actions of a deranged, racist lunatic alter your way of life! My condolences to the families of everyone involved in this tragedy.

  4. Martin says:

    Thanks Geezer.

I live just 500 meters from the Goverment building in Oslo. My house took on a big shake, yet was not harmed. I went downtown to watch, but it was just chaos. So I returned home and switched on TV. The pictures was terrible.

A while later we got the first news on the shooting at Utøya island (Labour Party Youth Camp, 30 km west of Oslo). The total amount of dead are still unknown. But 7 are confirmed dead in Oslo, over 80 at Utøya island. Most of them were young people, some of the 11/12 year olds.

It is an unbelievable action done by a sick man (a 32 yr Norwegiean) – but still an ugly reality.

I´m still sad. My thougts and empathy goes to the family and friends of the victims.

    Martin Johannessen, Oslo.

My condolences and thoughts are with Norway. Such a disgusting act becomes even more so, when it is motivated by political reasons.

    R.i.p. all who, ultimately, die.

Geezer, im so sad about Amy, about the way she was talked about. Dont you think the people who choose journalism and are part of that gossip monster , dont you think they are responsible for alot of the bad media ?…shouldnt we look at journalists and media whores as bad as we look at the words they publish ?
