Heaven & Hell
Announce One Off Show

A Tribute To Ronnie James Dio
At

High Voltage Festival, Saturday 24th July 2010

Proceeds to be donated to the
Ronnie James Dio “Stand Up And Shout” Cancer Fund

On the 16th May 2010 Ronnie James Dio passed away and the world of music mourned the loss of the greatest voice of heavy metal.

Dio was a truly iconic figure in music, whose work with Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio and most recently Heaven & Hell defined a genre.

Heaven & Hell were set to be on the road in Europe this summer when news came through that despite the amazing progress he was making Ronnie wouldn’t be well enough to tour and those shows were cancelled.  But now, remaining members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice are set to play a one off show to celebrate his life and work. The band will be completed by Glenn Hughes and Jorn Lande who will both contribute vocals. Former Deep Purple / Black Sabbath star Glenn Hughes was a close friend of Ronnie’s for many years and performed a musical tribute at Ronnie’s funeral service in Los Angeles. Norwegian Jorn Lande is best known in the UK as the vocalist for power metal band Masterplan, he has also released many solo albums including a tribute to Ronnie.  It promises to be a fitting celebration to a man that the metal scene owes so much.

“It’s going to be a very emotional occasion. Ronnie loved his fans like no-one else I know – and they loved him. It will be a privilege doing a gig in honour of his memory, and to help towards his charity. Above all, I hope it encourages people to have regular check-ups for this disease. Early detection is vital, and greatly improves the chance of a cure. I know everyone has heard that a million times before, but seeing one of your best friends die because we all think we’re immune from this disease, really brings it home. Do it for yourself, your family, your friends. Ronnie would be proud of you.” Love & Peace, Geezer Butler

Tony Iommi says “Ronnie’s passing has left a huge hole, we hadn’t anywhere near finished what we set out to do as a band together.  He was so looking forward to the European tour and we hope this appearance will go some way to fulfilling that.”

  1. OSCAR says:

The tribute is OK. But I don´t think Jorn is a singer for Sabbath.-

  2. Can says:

    Great News!!

    Oscar, grow up!

  3. Baldasar says:

    Yeaarr I love Glen hughes!!
    R.I.P. Ronnie

  4. Xande says:

I hope Sab will carry on without Ronnie. I love his voice, but the band is far too great to call it an end.

  5. 7th angel says:

i dont see the talent from glen hughes. give me tony martin

  6. Matt Bodossian says:

I agree with Xande, sabbath is far too great of a band to call it an end. The passing of Ronnie was terrible and sabbath will never be the same without him, but the remaining members are just as amazing and it still my dream to see them play live. Geezer, you are a great man and bass player and have influenced me greatly. Please carry on Dio’s legacy.
    R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio

  7. KELLY HAVIS says:

IN HONOR OF DIO, LET HEAVEN AND HELL REST. THEY CAN PUT OUT MATERIAL THAT IS FINISHED ENOUGH TO PUT OUT OF DIO’S BUT THEY SHOULD NOT TRY TO REPLACE HIM, NOT EVEN WITH MARTIN!! DIO AND OZZY WERE AND ARE BLACK SABBATH!!

  8. OSCAR says:

Derrick LeFevre (Lillian Axe) is a good singer for Sabbath. What about him singing Johnny Blade, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, The Writ, You won´t change me, Hard life to love, Wishing well etc. Why do Sabbath waste this material? How many bands would sell their soul for songs like these?.-

  9. Steve d says:

Some of the posted comments are tough….Due to legal reasons their has been a clear seperation of who is Black Sabbath…..Ronnie sure fit–Gillian didnt and some of the other singers may or may have not…..Ronnie was Sabbath as much as Ozzy but their was a clear difference–a good one -like Van Halen with Sammy or Dave both good that shouldnt be compared…I see the band working with Ozzy in the future as Sabbath but cringe to think of Ozzy taking on Dio classics like Neon Knights-Wishing Well or Die Young to name a few….I believe the band Heaven and Hell has a lot of gas left—but shouldnt become a tribute band….Somewhere their has to be a singer that can do Ronnies songs with Tony -Geezer-and Vinny with a high degree of respect and also with song writing abilities to take the energy forward….At this point -as a fan –I agree that the only true Black Sabbath left to tour Is with Ozzy but am hungry for more…and I think Tony and Geezer are far from being done…..Sabbath with Ozzy was classic–but something seems to be going stale—-Sabbath with Dio—timeless-still fresh–how can one not appreciate the Heaven and Hell record 25 years after the fact ? and the bands last tours reflect what us getting older metal-heads want…Geezer–I hope you Tony and Vinny find a way to keep working with each other,,,,Ronnie can never be replaced—but hopefully something respectful can be done to Move what I we called the New Sabbath back in 1980 forward…..Forgive the plug—-please visit RJDs official site-support STAND UP AND SHOUT and the fine unpaid work that his widow and dearest friends are doing to keep us aware that if we want to stick around-we have to take care of ourselves…SD

  10. kevin keefe says:

dio rules, i cant really think of anyone to take his place. i have seen the thin lzzy tribute with sykes and gorham ,that was good but you never replace someone like ronnie.rip ronnie. miss you forever.. kevin keefe….

  11. Kristian Snowden says:

    Jorn Lande has my vote

  12. William Norman says:

To all those who are listing possible replacement singers, shame on you. This concert is about honoring the memory of Ronnie James Dio, and helping the “Stand Up and Shout” cancer fund.

Whatever projects Tony, Geezer, and Vinnie pursue forward is entirely up to them, and I really don’t think the “Comments” section about this tribute concert is an appropriate place to voice opinions about who should replace the irreplaceable Ronnie James Dio.

  13. Jon Payne says:

I think that Tony Martin would be well up to the task of taking Heaven and Hell and step further. Ronnie could never be replaced but at least Tony has been in the line up and would do an admirable job. Fingers crossed that H&H will not end and will come up with more fitting material that Ronnie would have been proud of. Geez, you are my inspiration. I still remember the statue at Beech Hay!!

    Jon

  14. OSCAR says:

I said Derrick Lefevre, but when I listened ” I fear you” from “Festival” (Jon Oliva´s Pain) I realized the only possible man is Jon Oliva.-

  15. RW Pickering says:

I think this Tribute is a fantastic idea. I hope they capture it on film and put it on DVD.
As far as “replacing” Ronnie goes? It’s not possible. He was the man with the golden throat, he was Metal’s greatest ally and THE greatest example of what is so great about Metal and Music in general.

So long as Music lives (forever) so will RJD.

  16. Davide says:

I very much hope that Iommi and Butler will continue to play with Jorn Lande. Their music is great.
Iommi and Butler are exceptional in the choice of doing one tribute concert and not to use the name Heaven and Hell.
Unique, apart being sacred monster, are true lords.
    (sorry for my English)

  17. MILA DENOT says:

Geezer, simply would like to thank you for Awesome tribute to Ronald!

Ronnie has made my life better! and miss him every day, every second!
Your music has made my life better too! I know it’s difficult now, but you should continue! For Ronnie and for you!
And for the world culture legacy! You are really the best!

Bless you Geezer and bless you all \m/ For your Czech and French fans Mila

  18. OSCAR says:

Sorry, I was in a big mistake. After High Voltage´s tribute, I realized Jorn Lande IS a singer for Sabbath.-
