Congratulations, Metallica

Posted on December 11, 2011

I had the pleasure and honour of jamming Sabbra Cadabra / A National Arobat, and then Iron Man / Paranoid (with Ozzy) with Metallica at their 30th Anniversary Met Club gig last night (Dec 10th) in San Francisco at the Fillmore.  Great bunch of guys, and of course one of the world’s greatest bands.  They did their fan club proud.  The late, great Cliff Burton was definitely in the house with us, and smiling……

How awesome is this. I always love to see original members of the key-band of Heavy Metal in action. Hail to the kings! Hail to Ozzy and Geezer! Hail to Black Sabbath and all the best wishes for a quick recovery to Tony “The Riffmeister” Iommi.
Well, Metallica did a marvelous job as well…but consider this: compared to their last three releases, covering Sabbath stuff is a highlight. So why not sticking to this. Great musicians but out of successful songwriting should think about becoming a cover act. This would exclude the disapaointment of their fans because they would know what to expect: A well tempered reproduction of a song written by someone else.

Ooh, god dammit.. Metallica butchers these songs. They should just stop. Stop playing music, or at least keep in the garage. They just don’t cut it anymore. Question is, have they ever cut it? Maybe up until 88-89. But this is just sad….

    I love it

Until a modern “heavy metal” band can come up with a proper bass player as Geezer Butler, there will never be a “heavy metal” band comparible to Black Sabbath. Today’s “musicians” hide under tons of distortion and electronics combined with cloned inpersonable sound and songwriting. Listen to Black Sabbath’s debut Lp, now there is clean sound, clear identifiable musicianship, and, far from “heavy metal”, just wonderful creative songwriting and presentation that only classic rock bands as Sabbath where able to convert.

Metallica the biggest sell outs ever (and ozzy is number 2) and I’m sad to see them jam with youthey don’t deserve it. they need dave back to write good music for them cause they can’t metallica has become the queens of pop rock and ruined metal forever bring on g/z/r and show them how to play metal

    sabbath will live on forever

  12. Geezer what a class act to include Cliff in your commentary, you are an inspiration to bass players everywhere! Kudos from the states!
